Once upon a time, I was an overworked and underpaid elementary school teacher dreaming of a fairy tale life. Exhausted was my middle name, and as much as I loved teaching, I longed for something more flexible, independent and empowering to call my job. I first learned about network marketing just as my family was relocating across the country for my husband's career. We landed in Texas, where I didn't have the certification to teach and was looking at a lengthy initiation process.
Our transition came as an opportunity to finally pursue my dreams of financial independence, but I wasn't sure how to get off the ground. Other moms were making money online and staying home with their kids — so why couldn't I? So I adopted a winner's mindset and threw myself into network marketing with all the energy I could muster. I was determined to match my teaching salary and become a top earner by learning the tricks of the trade and doing everything I was told.
But that's just the thing. I took expensive training courses, spent all of my free time researching and marketing, and did everything I was told to emulate "successful" marketing strategies. And because I wanted so badly to see that success, that's exactly what I became — part of a flawed system.
And guess what, not only did it get me nowhere — but it actually pushed me backwards in life!
My desperate drive to succeed was beginning to affect my personal relationships in a negative way. I didn't realize it at the time, but my personality and business were becoming the same — to the point that I started alienating my family and friends!
I'll never forget the day I found out that my friends were talking about me behind my back. I was in disbelief, angry and embarrassed. I wanted to give up and move on, maybe go back to teaching and pretend it was just a phase.
But something told me that maybe it wasn't me — but the system I was following. So instead of throwing in the towel, I decided to reinvent my approach. I began learning about different ways to market and put automated digital systems to work, align with unique business strategies, and have a professional work ethic. People were out there succeeding at network marketing — but they weren't cold calling, spamming with messages or doing home parties. Instead, they were operating a fully functional and engaging network marketing platform powered by digital automation and lead-tailored strategies. When I implemented those tools into my business model, it completely revolutionized my strategy and put my business into a totally new gear.
